COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mechanical Engineering program offers a range of modules designed to provide both breadth and depth in technical knowledge, analytical skills, and practical application. Students study Advanced Materials and Manufacture, exploring modern materials and manufacturing techniques, and Fatigue and Fracture, which focuses on the behaviour and failure of materials under stress. Modules such as Further Computational Fluid Dynamics and Further Finite Element Analysis develop advanced analytical and simulation skills, while Robotics and Control introduces automation, control systems, and robotics applications. Research Methods for Engineers equips students with the skills to plan, conduct, and analyse engineering research, providing a foundation for the dissertation. Industrial Heating Systems covers energy systems and their applications in industrial processes, and Professional Engineering Management focuses on leadership, project management, and organisational skills within engineering contexts. Safety, Health, and Environmental Engineering addresses workplace safety, environmental responsibilities, and regulatory compliance. The Dissertation represents a substantial research project where students apply knowledge and practical skills to investigate an engineering challenge in depth, developing independent problem-solving and analytical abilities. Direct Entry students without prior experience in Computational Fluid Dynamics or Finite Element Analysis may also take the Engineering Computational Analysis module, ensuring they gain essential skills for advanced study and professional practice. Together, these modules prepare graduates for careers in engineering design, analysis, management, and innovation, equipping them with the expertise needed for a competitive and evolving field.
