COURSE CURRICULUM

The International Security and Risk Management program provides a comprehensive framework for understanding and responding to complex global security challenges. The International Security Theories and Methods module introduces students to key theoretical frameworks and research methodologies for analysing contemporary security issues, fostering critical thinking and analytical skills. Terrorism and Counter-terrorism in Europe examines the nature of terrorism, its international dimensions, and the national and European responses to mitigate these threats. Intelligence Studies develops understanding of intelligence concepts and their role in shaping domestic and international policy, particularly in relation to organised crime and terrorism. Risk Management and Analysis focuses on decision-making processes and analytical techniques to evaluate and respond to diverse security risks, including those arising from large and complex datasets. European Union Security explores the institutional frameworks, decision-making processes, and collaborative security mechanisms within the EU. Governing and Securing Cyberspace addresses legal, socio-cultural, and ethical challenges in the governance and protection of digital environments. The program also covers the international security implications of drugs, organised crime, and human trafficking, as well as the geopolitical dynamics associated with natural resources. The dissertation enables students to conduct independent research, integrating theoretical knowledge with practical applications. Overall, the program equips graduates with critical, analytical, and practical skills to address contemporary security and risk challenges at both national and international levels.
