COURSE CURRICULUM

The International Security and Risk Management (Counter Terrorism) program provides an in-depth exploration of contemporary security threats, with a particular focus on terrorism and related risks. The International Security Theories and Methods module introduces students to key theoretical frameworks and research methodologies for analysing complex security challenges, building critical thinking and analytical skills. Terrorism and Counter-terrorism in Europe examines the nature of terrorism within a European context, exploring both national and regional strategies to prevent and respond to threats. Intelligence Studies develops understanding of the role of intelligence in shaping domestic and international security policies, including the collection, analysis, and application of information to counter terrorism. Risk Management and Analysis equips students with tools to identify, assess, and mitigate potential risks, enhancing decision-making capabilities in high-stakes environments. Additional modules, such as Terrorism, Hybrid Warfare and Conflict Analysis in Europe and Beyond, Radicalisation, Psychology and Migration in Terrorism Studies, and Terrorism, the Middle Eastern Conflict and Europe, provide detailed insights into the drivers, dynamics, and impacts of terrorism across different regions and contexts. The dissertation enables students to conduct independent research on a chosen topic, integrating theoretical knowledge with applied analysis. Overall, the program prepares graduates with the expertise, analytical skills, and practical understanding needed to address contemporary terrorism challenges and contribute effectively to counter-terrorism, intelligence, and risk management roles.
