COURSE CURRICULUM

The Advanced Forensic Investigation program provides students with in-depth knowledge and practical expertise in managing complex criminal investigations. The Advanced Crime Scene Investigation module focuses on developing skills in managing intricate crime scenes, applying forensic strategies, making informed decisions, interpreting evidence, and understanding the psychological impact of investigative work on professionals. Forensic Evidence in Investigative Practice explores a wide range of evidence types, including DNA, fingerprints, digital data, and controlled substances, teaching students to collect, interpret, and apply evidence within legal frameworks while adhering to quality assurance, regulation, and UK forensic accreditation standards. Investigative Techniques and Evidence Presentation develops students’ expertise through real and simulated casework, emphasizing interviewing, multi-agency coordination, courtroom skills, evidence management, and ethical practices in presenting findings. The Fire, Explosions, and CBRNe Investigations module covers hazardous incident management, including combustion science, scene handling, and evidence recovery, ensuring safety, investigative rigour, and evidential integrity. Research and Development in Forensic Investigation allows students to undertake an independent, interdisciplinary research project, focusing on the development and evaluation of forensic methodologies. This module strengthens skills in data analysis, scientific communication, and professional presentation of findings through detailed written reports and oral presentations. Overall, the program equips graduates with the technical proficiency, analytical skills, and professional understanding required to excel in forensic investigation, crime scene management, and related high-stakes investigative roles.
