COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Aeronautical Engineering builds on core engineering principles and equips students with advanced knowledge and practical skills required for modern aerospace careers. The program covers advanced materials and manufacturing, providing insight into the selection criteria for engineering applications and hands-on experience with modern production methods. Students explore fatigue and fracture analysis to predict structural failures and apply preventative measures, while further finite element analysis and computational fluid dynamics modules enhance their ability to model and critically evaluate complex engineering problems. The course includes robotics and control, offering a deep understanding of control engineering principles, and aeroelasticity, which examines the interactions between aerodynamic, inertial, and elastic forces in aircraft design. Professional engineering management develops strategic leadership, project planning, and management skills within an engineering context. Advanced propulsion focuses on aircraft engine performance, component analysis, and system design, while advanced aircraft design integrates the knowledge from taught modules to conceptually create, simulate, and optimise aircraft designs. Throughout the program, research methods equip students to critically analyse data, conduct robust investigations, and apply innovative solutions. The MSc culminates in a dissertation that allows students to undertake substantial independent research, synthesising theoretical knowledge and practical skills to address real-world aerospace engineering challenges and contribute to industry or academic advancement.
