COURSE CURRICULUM

The course provides a structured and practical pathway for developing advanced skills in film and screenwriting. The Industry module offers students real-world work experience in their chosen field, guided by industry partners. Through lectures on professionalism, industry entry, film festivals, and fundraising, as well as workshops focused on developing an online presence and building a CV or showreel portfolio, students gain the knowledge and tools needed to navigate the professional landscape. Specialist Craft Practice and Advanced Specialist Craft Practice allow students to refine their technical and creative abilities through lectures, tutorials, practical exercises, and workshops, ensuring that their portfolios meet both assessment criteria and industry standards. Film: Theory and Play bridges theory and practice, encouraging collaboration across pathways and exploration of concepts and techniques through workshops and film exercises. Collaborative Practice focuses on teamwork in production, guiding students to produce a 6–9 minute film while learning about production hierarchies, workflows, deadlines, and budgeting. The program culminates in the Major Production Project, in which students create a substantial body of work in their chosen specialism. This may include a feature-length film script of 90–120 pages or the television equivalent of two episodes with outlines for additional episodes. Continuous guidance and feedback throughout the project prepare students for professional practice and creative success in the film and screenwriting industries.
