COURSE CURRICULUM

The course offers a comprehensive and practical approach to developing skills and experience in filmmaking. The Industry module provides students with real-world work experience in their chosen field, supported by industry partners. Through lectures on professionalism, industry entry, film festivals, and fundraising, alongside workshops focused on building an online presence and developing a CV or showreel portfolio, students are prepared for professional practice. Specialist Craft Practice and Advanced Specialist Craft Practice allow students to refine their technical and creative abilities through a combination of lectures, tutorials, practical exercises, and workshops, ensuring that portfolios meet both assessment requirements and industry standards. Film: Theory and Play bridges theory and practice, enabling students to collaborate across pathways and experiment with concepts and techniques in a structured, creative environment. Collaborative Practice emphasizes teamwork in production, guiding students to produce a 6–9 minute film while learning about production hierarchies, workflow, deadlines, and budgeting. The program culminates in the Major Production Project, where students produce a 12–15 minute film along with supporting materials, either individually or collaboratively. Working alongside industry professionals, academic staff, and peers, students receive continuous feedback and guidance, developing both their craft skills and professional confidence to succeed in the competitive film industry.
