COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Film (Cinematography) program incorporates a range of modules designed to provide both practical experience and industry insight. The Industry module offers students guided work experience in their chosen field, supported by industry partners, and includes lectures on professional entry, film festivals, fundraising, and workshops to develop online presence, CVs, and showreel portfolios. Specialist Craft Practice and Advanced Specialist Craft Practice focus on honing technical expertise in a chosen discipline through lectures, workshops, practical exercises, and tutorials, enabling students to create a professional portfolio that aligns with industry standards. Film: Theory and Play bridges theory and practice, encouraging collaboration across different pathways while exploring cinematic concepts and techniques through workshops and practical film exercises. Collaborative Practice immerses students in production groups to produce a short film of six to nine minutes, fostering teamwork, understanding of production hierarchies, budget management, and deadline adherence. The Major Production Project is the culmination of the program, where students create a 12 to 15-minute film and supporting materials, either individually or collaboratively, with continuous guidance and feedback. Through these modules, students gain hands-on experience, develop professional competencies, and refine both their technical and creative skills, preparing them for successful careers in film, television, and digital media industries.
