COURSE CURRICULUM

The CAMH program offers a structured approach to understanding child and adolescent mental health, combining theoretical knowledge with practical insights. The Contexts and Concepts module introduces students to key ideas within CAMH, fostering critical thinking around complex issues such as risk and protective factors and their influence on positive outcomes for children and young people. It emphasizes understanding mental health in context, encouraging students to consider social, emotional, and environmental influences on wellbeing. The Managing and Supporting CAMH and SEBD module shifts focus toward theory of practice, enabling students to critically evaluate different approaches to prevention and intervention. This module explores evidence-based strategies for supporting children and young people with social, emotional, and behavioral difficulties, highlighting how interventions can be tailored to individual needs. Research Methodology equips students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to conduct primary or secondary research, including understanding research design, data collection, and analysis. The Dissertation module allows students to apply these skills by carrying out a substantial research project, either as a 30-credit option or an extended 60-credit study, providing flexibility to include additional specialist learning. Collectively, the course develops reflective, evidence-informed practitioners capable of understanding, supporting, and advancing child and adolescent mental health practice.
