COURSE CURRICULUM

The Animation course guides students through a structured and immersive journey, starting with the Animation Exploration module where they develop their creative voice and take ideas through essential pre-production stages such as scripting, character design, and storyboarding, culminating in a professional-standard pitch. In Professional Practice: Animation, students gain insight into industry pipelines, trends, and expectations, helping them identify a role that aligns with their career goals. The Animation Application module allows students to refine their production skills within a chosen specialism, whether in 2D, CG, or stop-motion, engaging with key production stages like layout and clean-up while using industry-standard software. Animation Specialisation encourages experimentation, in-depth research, and critical analysis, advancing professional practice in a focused area. The Major Project provides an opportunity to demonstrate creative, technical, and intellectual abilities through a portfolio, showreel, or short film, depending on the student’s strengths and ambitions. Finally, the Animation Review module fosters reflection, enabling students to critically evaluate the development process of their major project, the challenges encountered, the research undertaken, and their contribution to the final outcome. By the end of the course, graduates have a strong body of work, professional experience, and the critical and practical skills required to succeed in the animation industry.
