COURSE CURRICULUM

The Wildlife Ecology and Conservation program is a three-year degree designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of ecology, wildlife biology, and conservation management. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through modules in biodiversity, diversity of cellular life, genetics and evolution, principles of ecology, wildlife biology, and skills and professional development. This combination of theoretical and practical learning introduces students to key concepts in ecology, evolution, and animal biology, while developing essential professional skills for the field. In the second year, the focus shifts to more advanced and applied topics, including behavioural ecology, conservation genetics, comparative vertebrate zoology, community ecology, and continued skills and professional development. Students also have opportunities to participate in optional modules such as applied tropical conservation and ecological consultancy, as well as professional practice placements, providing hands-on experience in real-world conservation environments. In the third year, students consolidate their learning through applied conservation management, research projects, and career development, alongside optional modules in marine and freshwater ecology, global ecological challenges, and humans and other primates. The program emphasizes critical thinking, data analysis, and evidence-based conservation strategies, preparing graduates for careers in wildlife management, conservation research, ecological consultancy, environmental policy, and other roles requiring scientific expertise and practical experience in protecting biodiversity and ecosystems globally.
