COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sound, Lighting and Live Event Technology program is a three-year degree that combines technical knowledge, creative design, and practical experience to prepare students for careers in the live events industry. In the first year, students build foundational skills in stagecraft, electrical and technical fundamentals, and the operation of sound, lighting, and video systems for theatrical and live music performances. They also develop abilities in computer-aided design and audio-visual system design, learning to convey ideas effectively and plan technical setups. The second year focuses on more specialized applications, including sound and lighting for TV and film, event data networks, wireless systems, rigging, recording, broadcast, streaming, and power systems for live events. Students also gain practical experience through industry placements, enhancing professional skills, teamwork, and real-world problem-solving. In the final year, students advance their expertise with modules on installed technology design, project management, negotiation, and the integration of sound, lighting, and video for festivals, touring, and large-scale events. Advanced studies in broadcast technology, audio systems, and lighting systems allow students to tackle complex production challenges. A major project or singleton project provides the opportunity to demonstrate creativity, technical proficiency, and professional competence. Graduates leave equipped with the practical skills, technical knowledge, and industry insight required for careers as sound engineers, lighting designers, live event technicians, or technical managers, ready to contribute confidently to the fast-paced events industry.
