COURSE CURRICULUM

The Psychology with Counselling program is a three-year degree that integrates the study of psychological theory with practical counselling skills, preparing students for careers in mental health and therapeutic practice. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge in core psychological perspectives, including biological, cognitive, social, and developmental approaches, while exploring research methods and ethical considerations. They are also introduced to the principles and models underpinning traditional and contemporary counselling therapies. The second year focuses on deepening understanding and applying therapeutic principles, particularly from a humanistic perspective, while continuing to advance research skills, statistical analysis, and the study of biological, cognitive, social, and developmental influences on behavior. Students gain practical experience through professional practice and employability modules, developing transferable skills relevant to the workplace. In the final year, students complete an independent psychology dissertation, integrating research, critical thinking, and applied knowledge. Optional modules allow specialization in areas such as health psychology, educational and occupational psychology, psychological disorders and interventions, social psychology, cognitive neuropsychology, forensic psychology, and reflective counselling practice. The program emphasizes ethical, reflective, and evidence-based practice, enabling students to understand mental health, apply therapeutic interventions, and critically evaluate psychological theory in real-world contexts. Graduates are equipped with the knowledge, practical skills, and professional insight required for roles in counselling, mental health support, education, and related fields.
