COURSE CURRICULUM

The Midwifery degree is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence required for a professional career in maternal and neonatal care. In the first year, students focus on promoting health and wellbeing, understanding the midwife’s role from local to global perspectives, and developing professionalism, communication, and interpersonal skills. They build a foundation in normal midwifery practice, anatomy, physiology, and psychological factors, alongside practical preparation for clinical placements. In the second year, the program emphasizes managing emergency and complex situations, applying professional, legal, and ethical standards, and implementing evidence-based practice to improve midwifery care. Students gain skills in newborn assessment and informed decision-making to respond effectively to deviations in care. The third year focuses on leadership, service improvement, and autonomous practice, with students learning to provide holistic care addressing the bio-psycho-social and spiritual needs of childbearing individuals. They develop competence in managing midwifery care for individuals with additional needs, handling acute health deteriorations, and working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams. By combining theoretical understanding, clinical expertise, and reflective practice, graduates are prepared to deliver safe, compassionate, and high-quality care across the childbirth continuum, ready to meet professional standards and make a meaningful impact in midwifery practice.
