COURSE CURRICULUM

The Medicinal and Biological Chemistry degree offers a multidisciplinary approach, integrating chemistry, biology, and pharmacology to provide a deep understanding of drug design, human biology, and molecular science. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge in physical, inorganic, and organic chemistry, alongside biochemistry, genetics, and human anatomy and physiology. This stage emphasizes laboratory skills, scientific problem-solving, and understanding the diversity of life and evolutionary processes. The second year advances students’ expertise, covering bioinorganic chemistry, synthetic organic and heterocyclic chemistry, and molecular genetics, while providing practical experience with modern analytical techniques. Students also explore cellular pathology, disease processes, and the interactions between humans and microorganisms, linking chemical principles to biological systems and health. In the final year, students undertake a major project that develops research, professional practice, and career skills while engaging with independent scientific inquiry. Advanced modules in organic chemistry, medicinal drug design, and contemporary medicinal chemistry allow students to understand mechanisms of drug action, pharmacokinetics, and modern therapeutic developments. The program also introduces current molecular advances, equipping graduates with the knowledge and practical experience needed for careers in pharmaceutical research, biotechnology, healthcare, or further study in chemical and medical sciences.
