COURSE CURRICULUM

The Forensic Investigation degree is structured to build skills progressively, taking students from foundational knowledge to advanced professional practice. In the first year, students are introduced to the fundamentals of forensic analysis, crime scene investigation, and scientific principles, while also developing key skills for forensic science and exploring broader issues of crime and deviance. The second year deepens this learning with a focus on the analysis and interpretation of evidence, the practical examination of volume scenes, and the forensic study of human remains. Students also engage with digital forensics, tackling e-crime, and unmask violent crime, while learning how science is applied in practice to forensic contexts. The final year consolidates expertise with a significant research project that enhances employability skills, alongside specialist modules on forensic casework and the role of the expert witness. Students study criminal investigation processes, the challenges of investigating serious and organised crime, and major scene examinations. This structured progression ensures that graduates leave with a strong scientific foundation, practical crime scene skills, critical analytical abilities, and an understanding of the legal and investigative frameworks that underpin forensic practice, preparing them for careers in forensic science, policing, or related criminal justice professions.
