COURSE CURRICULUM

The Criminology with Psychology degree provides a comprehensive understanding of both criminal behaviour and the psychological factors that influence it, combining theoretical study with practical application over three years. In the first year, students are introduced to the criminal justice system, crime and deviance, and research methods in criminology, alongside key psychological concepts such as cognition, behaviour, and lifespan development. Modules also focus on professional development, ethical practice, and understanding the experiences of victims. The second year builds on this foundation by exploring advanced criminological topics, including violent, organised, and transnational crime, substance misuse, and security challenges. Psychology modules cover biological and social influences on behaviour, and students learn to apply research skills to understand the complex interplay between crime and human development. In the final year, students examine forensic psychology, health psychology across the lifespan, and advanced criminology topics such as homicide, domestic abuse, and resettlement within the criminal justice system. Optional dissertation work allows students to undertake independent research, integrating insights from both disciplines. Throughout the program, there is a strong emphasis on ethical, professional, and reflective practice, ensuring graduates are equipped with analytical, practical, and research skills to pursue careers in criminal justice, policing, probation, offender rehabilitation, forensic psychology, policy development, or further study.
