COURSE CURRICULUM

The Building Surveying degree offers a structured three-year program that combines technical knowledge, practical skills, and professional development to prepare students for careers in surveying, construction, and property management. In the first year, students develop foundational understanding through modules in built environment law, economics, principles, construction technology, digital technologies, and the relationship between development and society. This provides a strong base in both the legal and technical aspects of the built environment. In the second year, the focus shifts to practical and professional skills, with modules in building management, contract management, building pathology, housing and planning, project management, and advanced construction technology. Students learn to assess building conditions, manage projects, and understand the social, legal, and technical considerations of property and construction projects. In the final year, students consolidate their learning through a dissertation and advanced modules in commercial management, building control, sustainability, decarbonisation, and surveying practices. Emphasis is placed on sustainable construction, energy efficiency, and professional standards, equipping students to operate confidently in multidisciplinary teams. By integrating technical expertise, practical experience, and knowledge of legal, economic, and environmental aspects, the program prepares graduates to contribute effectively to the maintenance, improvement, and sustainable management of the built environment in diverse professional roles.
