COURSE CURRICULUM

The TV and Film Set Design program is a three-year degree that equips students with the practical skills, theoretical knowledge, and professional experience needed for careers in production design and art departments within film and television. In the first year, students build a foundation through modules in visual studies for TV and film design, practical skills for art departments, modelling and draughting, set design projects, and histories and contexts of TV and film set design. This combination of practical and academic study develops technical competence, creative thinking, and an understanding of the cultural and historical context of design in media. In the second year, the focus shifts to applied production design, with modules covering production design for period drama, contemporary television drama, and feature films, alongside professional practice and critical analysis. These experiences allow students to apply design principles to a variety of genres while understanding the demands of industry standards and collaborative workflows. In the final year, students consolidate their learning through a minor project, major project, and dissertation in TV and film set design, enabling them to develop an individual creative identity and demonstrate expertise in research, planning, and execution. Graduates leave prepared for roles in set design, production design, art direction, and related creative careers, combining technical skill, artistic vision, and professional readiness.
