COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sports Journalism program is a three-year degree designed to equip students with the practical skills, theoretical knowledge, and professional experience needed for a successful career in sports media. In the first year, students develop foundational skills through modules in sports journalism in practice, essential sports reporting, photographic practice for sports journalism, sport, leisure and social cultures, promotion and marketing in sport, and law and ethics for journalists. This combination of technical skills, cultural understanding, and ethical awareness provides a solid base for further study. The second year builds on this foundation with advanced sports reporting, photography and video for sport, mobile sports journalism, digital marketing and public relations, behind the sports headlines, and the first sports career portfolio. These modules emphasize applied learning, multimedia production, and professional development, allowing students to gain practical experience and prepare for industry placements. In the final year, students consolidate their skills and knowledge through media ethics in sport, advanced news production, a major sports project, a dissertation, and the second sports career portfolio, which showcases professional competence. Throughout the program, students learn to research, report, and communicate effectively across multiple platforms, producing engaging content and developing a professional portfolio. Graduates are prepared for careers as sports journalists, broadcasters, digital content creators, commentators, or media specialists, equipped with practical expertise, industry insight, and critical understanding of the sports media landscape.
