COURSE CURRICULUM

The Media, Culture and Journalism degree offers a blend of theoretical study and practical experience, preparing students for diverse roles within the creative and media industries. In the first year, students gain foundational knowledge through modules such as Communication Now, Media, Culture and Creative Industries in Wales, Contemporary Popular Television, Introduction to Journalism, Rethinking Media Theory, and Audio-Sound Cultures. These modules provide an understanding of media theory, cultural contexts, and basic journalistic and audio production skills. The second year builds on these foundations with practical and applied learning, including Practical Journalism and Communication Skills, Media, Gender, and Global Diversity, Researching Media, Culture, and Communication, Media Audiences and Fandom, Digital and Social Media, and a Work Experience module. Students develop hands-on expertise, enhance research capabilities, and engage with contemporary media issues, while gaining industry experience through placements or live projects. In the final year, students consolidate their knowledge and skills through advanced study and major projects, with modules such as the Major Project in Media, Culture and Journalism, International Media, Transmedia and Media Convergence, and Curation, Exhibition, and Events. This year emphasizes independent research, creative production, and professional practice, enabling students to produce high-quality work that demonstrates critical thinking, technical proficiency, and industry readiness. Graduates are equipped to pursue careers in journalism, broadcasting, media management, digital content creation, and other roles across the cultural and creative sectors.
