COURSE CURRICULUM

The Creative and Therapeutic Arts degree is designed to develop students’ artistic skills while equipping them to use creativity to promote wellbeing and support others. In the first year, students build foundational skills in visual arts and learn to reflect critically on creative processes within the context of inclusive practice. Modules focus on professional practice, introducing ethical, reflective, and responsive approaches, alongside theoretical underpinnings of creativity and wellbeing. Academic research skills are also developed to support evidence-based practice. In the second year, students refine their artistic identity and confidence through studio work and bespoke projects in real-world settings, such as hospitals. Professional practice is expanded through designing, delivering, and evaluating projects, while students learn to facilitate wellbeing using collaborative and participatory creative arts approaches. Emphasis is placed on inclusive, non-hierarchical, and values-based practice. The third year consolidates learning with opportunities to contribute to cutting-edge projects, including interpretive artworks for museums and site-specific public art trails. Students critically evaluate their placements, apply industry frameworks, and explore societal challenges where creative arts can make a meaningful impact. By the end of the degree, graduates have a strong portfolio, practical experience, and professional confidence, preparing them for careers in therapeutic arts, health and wellbeing, education, or further study.
