COURSE CURRICULUM

The Counselling and Therapeutic Practice degree is a three-year program designed to develop skilled, reflective, and evidence-based practitioners capable of supporting clients across the lifespan. In the first year, students are introduced to pluralistic practice, exploring therapy philosophies, theories, and evidence-based approaches. They engage in personal and professional development, including experiential learning, self-reflection, and 40 hours of orientation placement. Modules also cover counselling children, mental health and wellbeing, and academic and research skills, providing a strong foundation in theory and practical understanding. In the second year, students deepen their knowledge and practice, integrating short-term, change-oriented skills and applying theory, ethics, and law in both in-person and online counselling. Supervised clinical practice, reflective personal development, and placement experience help build professional confidence. Students also focus on counselling adolescents, young people, and older adults, learning to tailor approaches for different developmental stages and client needs. The third year consolidates learning with advanced modules in pluralistic practice, complex client work, and reflective professional development, including 60 hours of supervised clinical practice. Students explore counselling children and young people with complex issues, integrate creative therapeutic methods, and develop skills in evidence-based practice and small-scale research projects. Graduates leave with practical experience, professional competence, and the confidence to pursue careers as counsellors, therapeutic practitioners, or to continue further specialised training.
