COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Computer Games Design degree is a three-year program that equips students with the creative, technical, and professional skills required for a career in the games industry. In the first year, students focus on foundational skills through modules such as building worlds, making games, level design, and design challenges, while participating in collaborative game studio projects. These experiences develop essential knowledge in gameplay mechanics, interactive storytelling, and game development workflows, encouraging creativity and problem-solving. The second year expands on these skills with experimental games, professional practice, content creation techniques, and advanced game studies. Students gain hands-on experience in developing unique game concepts, refining technical abilities, and understanding the theory and critique of games. Opportunities for placements or professional practice projects provide real-world exposure and enhance employability. In the third year, students undertake games prototypes and production modules, allowing them to take projects from concept through to final production, integrating all aspects of game design and development. The program also includes a dissertation and portfolio module, giving students the opportunity to research a specialised area and showcase their best work. Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on collaboration, creativity, technical proficiency, and professional skills, ensuring graduates leave with a strong portfolio, industry experience, and the confidence to pursue careers in game design, development, production, or related roles in interactive media and entertainment.
