COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Animation (2D and Stop Motion) program offers a three-year comprehensive curriculum designed to develop creative, technical, and professional skills for a career in the animation industry. In the first year, students build foundational abilities through drawing, life studies, and visual language, while exploring animation history, principles, and narrative strategies. They gain hands-on experience in creating short animations, studying motion, human and animal figure design, and integrating sound and image, while learning how strong design supports animated performance. The second year focuses on developing specialist skills in 2D and stop motion animation, including background design, storyboarding, puppet-making, and digital software. Students also study applied animation practices across diverse media, connect animation history to current trends, and master the full animation production pipeline, including collaboration on potential live client briefs. In the final year, students undertake advanced animation projects, develop and produce a major film or showreel, and enhance professional skills through industry-focused work. Optional modules in scriptwriting and dissertations allow for deeper exploration of creative and critical research. The program emphasizes employability by providing portfolio development, promotional material creation, and studio visits, preparing graduates to work confidently as directors, producers, or studio artists, with a strong professional portfolio and practical experience in 2D and stop motion animation.
