COURSE CURRICULUM
The MSc Research Development and Practice module (60 credits) is designed to prepare students for independent research in their chosen field. Through a project in service evaluation, research, or enterprise and innovation, students will develop a scientifically and ethically sound research proposal. They will apply appropriate research philosophies and designs, utilizing both qualitative and quantitative analysis tools. This module culminates in a written report and a poster that showcase the research findings, providing a solid foundation for future research endeavors.The Rehabilitation in Strength and Conditioning module (30 credits) focuses on mastering the rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries. Students will gain a deep understanding of the biomechanical and physiological mechanisms involved in tissue loading and adaptation. They will design evidence-based rehabilitation programs and engage in practical seminars, case studies, and exercises. Additionally, students will learn effective communication techniques to interact with clients both in person and through digital formats, preparing them for a career in rehabilitation and conditioning.The Strength and Conditioning Practice module (30 credits) focuses on developing technical expertise in applied lifting techniques such as the back squat, clean and jerk, and snatch. Students will study key theoretical concepts like needs analysis, periodization, and programming to enhance athletic performance. This module involves practical sessions, including plyometric techniques, agility and speed coaching, and feedback analysis. Students will also explore ethical issues in strength and conditioning and prepare for professional qualifications.The Biomechanics of Strength and Conditioning module (30 credits) provides students with the skills to analyze biomechanical factors that affect strength and conditioning. Through laboratory tests and data collection tools, students will design programs and assess athletes in rehabilitation settings. They will refine their understanding of biomechanical principles and gain expertise in biomechanical protocols for data collection and reporting, supporting effective performance analysis.The Strength and Conditioning Development module (30 credits) prepares students for career progression by offering opportunities for a work placement, independent project, or mini-self-employment placement. Students will enhance their organizational and communication skills while gaining practical experience relevant to their future careers. They will reflect on their learning experience, create a personal development profile, and assess their vocational skills, ultimately improving their employability and preparing for roles in strength and conditioning.
