COURSE CURRICULUM

The course offers an in-depth exploration of criminal justice systems, research methods, intelligence management, and applied criminology. In the "Criminal Justice in a Global Context" module, students examine how criminal justice concepts differ across borders by comparing national jurisdictions and evaluating international norms, standards, and criminal justice bodies such as international courts and tribunals. The module also explores the role of the United Nations human rights system and international judicial cooperation. The "Research Methods and Research Ethics" module prepares students for their Master's dissertation by guiding them through the process of designing a research proposal, enhancing research skills, and addressing ethical considerations in their work. Students will plan their research methodology and document sources to develop a clear, ethical research framework. The "Managing Intelligence" module focuses on the management of criminal intelligence, covering intelligence models, the analysis of open and closed sources, and the ethical principles involved in intelligence work. It prepares students to oversee intelligence professionals and ensure compliance with human rights. Finally, the "Dissertation/Major Project" offers students the opportunity to apply their knowledge through a substantial research project, whether academic or work-based, where they will demonstrate their ability to design research, evaluate ethical methodologies, and communicate their findings effectively. These modules together provide a comprehensive understanding of criminal justice and criminology, equipping students with the skills needed to engage in advanced research and professional practice in the field.
