COURSE CURRICULUM

This program offers a comprehensive understanding of key environmental and geotechnical engineering concepts, focusing on land contamination, groundwater protection, geotechnical design, and research skills. In the "Contaminated Land and Groundwater Protection" module, students learn the principles of contaminated land investigation, remediation, and redevelopment, alongside groundwater protection techniques. They'll assess evolving regulations and groundwater resource management, gaining insight into the prevention of groundwater pollution. "Ground Models and Ground Investigation" emphasizes integrated ground investigations and evaluates various geophysical and invasive techniques. Students will examine geotechnical risks, analyze geological history, and apply mapping techniques to identify geologically significant features such as slope failures. The "Research Skills and Project" module develops students' research capabilities, focusing on primary data collection, literature review, and advanced data analysis. They will generate new understandings from their research, preparing a comprehensive thesis report. In the "Rock Mechanics and Engineering Design" module, students critically analyze rock behavior under stress, strength and deformability, and understand rock mass data for designing engineering projects. They'll also explore the causes and prevention of stress-induced and structurally controlled failures in excavations. The "Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Design" module deepens students' understanding of geotechnical design, with a focus on developing accurate ground models, interpreting soil data, and analyzing soil behavior in engineering contexts.
