The Economic Crime module allows students to critically evaluate the complexities and processes surrounding economic crime. You will examine high-profile cases involving fraud, cybercrime, and corruption, analyzing the methods used to manipulate financial records and exploit system vulnerabilities. The module also explores the social and economic impacts of these crimes, providing you with the skills necessary to assess and implement economic crime reduction policies.The Money Laundering module offers an in-depth look at the processes involved in laundering "dirty" money, as well as associated issues like terrorist financing and global sanctions. You will explore how financial institutions deal with the complexities of maintaining compliance while protecting privacy, and you will compare global anti-money laundering approaches. The focus is on developing the skills required to detect suspicious transactions and promote financial integrity.The Research Methods and Research Ethics module helps you develop research skills for your Master's dissertation. You'll create a research proposal for a project of your choice, identifying areas to strengthen your skills through applied learning. The module covers research methods and ethical considerations, helping you design a clear, well-organized project with documented objectives and sources.Finally, the Dissertation/Major Project module gives you the opportunity to undertake a small-scale research project or applied work-based project, allowing you to showcase your understanding of research design, methodologies, and ethical practices. With guidance from academic staff, you will choose a topic within criminology and complete a comprehensive dissertation or report that demonstrates your ability to conduct systematic research and communicate findings professionally.
