COURSE CURRICULUM

The Cybercrime: Critical Perspectives module (30 credits) provides an in-depth examination of criminological theories related to cybercrime. You will analyze how both existing and emerging technologies are used to facilitate criminal offenses. You will critically evaluate risk theories and models that inform counterterrorism operations, from pre-emption strategies to conflict resolution. Case studies will help you assess counter-radicalization initiatives, surveillance tactics, and community partnerships, all through an ethical lens. The module also examines state responses to terrorism, balancing human rights, costs, and political outcomes across different contexts.Research Methods and Research Ethics (30 credits) helps you build essential research skills for your Master's dissertation. In this module, you’ll create a research proposal for a project of your choice, strengthening your skillset in core areas like methodology and applied learning. You'll focus on identifying research gaps, taking ethical issues into account, and documenting your data and literature sources. This preparation will lay a solid foundation for your dissertation, equipping you with the tools for a successful research project.The Dissertation/Major Project (60 credits) is a culmination of your learning, where you complete a small-scale research project and produce an academic dissertation or work-based project report. This module allows you to choose your research topic within criminology, apply ethical methodologies, conduct systematic research, and communicate your findings professionally. It will showcase your ability to manage a comprehensive research project, demonstrating your understanding of design, ethics, and academic rigor.
