COURSE CURRICULUM

This program offers a well-rounded blend of advanced engineering and project management skills, preparing students for leadership roles in civil engineering. The Independent Project module challenges students to apply their research skills to a focused, personal project, allowing them to critically assess methodologies, collect and analyze data, and draw informed conclusions. The Advanced Engineering Science module deepens students’ understanding of structural and numerical analysis, emphasizing Finite Element Modelling (FEM) to solve complex engineering problems. In the Advanced Geotechnics module, students extend their knowledge of geotechnical engineering, exploring topics such as energy geotechnics, seismic liquefaction, and earthquake-resistant structures, with a focus on applications in renewable energy sectors like wind turbines. The Environmental Management module focuses on the environmental impact of development, equipping students with the skills to assess, mitigate, and propose sustainable solutions while complying with relevant legislation. In Tools, Techniques and Processes of Project Management, students gain the expertise needed to manage complex projects, learning to apply effective safety management practices and evaluate all phases of the project lifecycle. Finally, the Civil Engineering Group Design Project allows students to collaborate on real-world infrastructure designs, focusing on technical, social, economic, and environmental factors, with a strong emphasis on sustainability. These modules collectively provide students with the necessary technical, managerial, and research skills to excel in the dynamic field of civil engineering.
