COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bioinformatics and Omics (30 credits) module introduces students to gene organization, regulation, and sequencing techniques, while focusing on computational analysis of sequence data. Through this module, you'll explore the recent advances in molecular biology and how genome sequencing provides insights into human diseases and genetic information. It delves into bioinformatics and the role of computational analysis in understanding gene expression and epigenetic regulatory mechanisms on a genome-wide scale. By attending computer workshops, you'll gain skills in using software and online resources for sequence analysis, including learning R script and Unix command line. This module is highly relevant in biological and biomedical research, as well as in personalized medicine.In the Biotechnology Research Skills and Project (60 credits) module, you'll develop your research skills through independent research. The module encourages you to critically evaluate published data, design experiments, and present your findings. You'll gain an in-depth understanding of your chosen research topic, employing various research techniques and data analysis methods. This module emphasizes transferable skills for personal and professional development, and you will communicate your results effectively through both written reports and verbal presentations to scientists and other audiences.The Molecular Biotechnology (30 credits) module builds on the knowledge from the Bioinformatics and Omics module. It focuses on the technology of exogenous protein expression and its applications in biotechnology. You'll critically evaluate emerging topics in molecular biotechnology, discussing their potential impacts and how they shape the future of biotechnology.
