COURSE CURRICULUM

In the Individual Project (MSc) module (60 credits), you’ll tackle an engineering problem by researching your chosen subject, evaluating existing solutions, and proposing a new one. This project will allow you to apply your technical skills to identify issues, devise engineering solutions, and test and evaluate the effectiveness of your approach. You’ll be assessed both orally and in writing, showcasing your ability to manage and execute an engineering project from start to finish. The Biomaterials for Tissue Engineering (20 credits) module focuses on the materials used in tissue engineering for biomedical applications. You’ll examine biomaterial interactions and categorize materials such as biopolymers, bioceramics, and their applications in implantable devices for orthopaedic and cardiovascular use. In the Biomechanics (20 credits) module, you’ll apply principles of biology and engineering to understand how biomaterials support tissue regeneration and interact with cells, analyzing their role in tissue engineering. The Computational Biomechanics (20 credits) module explores the performance of biomedical materials within the body, using computational tools to assess their safety and efficacy in real-world applications. Lastly, the Medical Instrumentation Systems (20 credits) module combines engineering concepts with medical technology, focusing on tools used in medical environments. You’ll explore diagnostic imaging technologies, signal measurements, and the integration of artificial intelligence into medical systems, expanding your understanding of medical instrumentation in practice.
