COURSE CURRICULUM

In your MSc program, you will delve deeply into advanced topics in skill acquisition, applied sports psychology, and research development. The Advanced Topics in Skill Acquisition module (30 credits) provides an in-depth exploration of skill development, focusing on perceptual-cognitive skills, motor learning, and control. You'll evaluate skill training frameworks and research to develop interventions for improving skills. The second phase of the module emphasizes ecological psychology, focusing on affordances across the lifetime and its application to human perceptual-motor behavior.The Applied Sports Psychology module (30 credits) examines the ethical issues and approaches in sports psychology. You will develop professional practice skills such as counselling, service evaluation, and reflective practice. You'll also assess the methods used for performance assessment and learn to apply psychological interventions to enhance sports performance. This module is designed to develop your consultancy skills and your understanding of sport psychology principles.In the MSc Research Development and Practice module (60 credits), you will conduct a project that enhances your research skills in service evaluation, research, or innovation. You will create an outline research proposal, apply appropriate research philosophies and designs, and present your findings in a report and poster.The Psychology of Elite Performance module (30 credits) deepens your understanding of psychological theories related to success in elite sports. You'll study how coaching can develop expertise in specific performance domains and learn how to design psychological support programs. Meanwhile, the Psychology of Exercise and Physical Activity module (30 credits) gives you a grounding in exercise psychology, with a focus on factors that influence exercise adherence and the application of research findings in practical settings for health professionals. These modules equip you with the tools to integrate psychological principles into sports practice and enhance performance outcomes.
