COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year of your MSc program, you will take a range of modules that focus on enhancing your knowledge and skills in sports physiology, performance, and research. The Applied Sports Physiology module (30 credits) uses problem-based learning to explore the physiological factors that impact sports performance. You will design appropriate testing protocols, conduct physiological tests, and analyze data, demonstrating how to safely perform tests and interpret feedback from athletes. The Current Concepts in Sport and Exercise Performance module (30 credits) keeps you updated with contemporary scientific concepts shaping performance in sport. It focuses on ethical practices, inclusion, and developing communication skills to present ideas effectively.In the Humans in Extreme Environments module (30 credits), you will explore how extreme environmental conditions affect work and sports performance. You will study the physiological mechanisms at play and how to mitigate these effects to enhance performance. The MSc Research Development and Practice module (60 credits) prepares you for research in your field, where you will create a research proposal, use qualitative and quantitative analysis tools, and produce a report that enhances your knowledge in your chosen area.Finally, the Technology and Performance in Sport and Exercise module (30 credits) focuses on the use of technology to solve challenges in sport and exercise. You will learn data management techniques, critically assess emerging technologies, and understand how to implement and adapt technology to optimize human performance. These modules collectively aim to develop your scientific understanding and practical skills for applying to sports performance and research.
