COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Aquatic Biology offers modules that provide students with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience essential for conducting impactful research in the field. The Aquatic Biology Research Project (60 credits) is the core module, where students demonstrate professional-level project planning, organization, and execution. This project requires a comprehensive literature review on a specific research area, critical analysis of scientific papers, and the application of appropriate research methodologies. Students are expected to perform detailed data analysis, present results in a scientific format, and contextualize their findings within existing literature, showcasing their ability to contribute original research to the field of aquatic biology.In addition, the Research Toolkit module (30 credits) equips students with key research skills necessary for studying aquatic environments. Students will evaluate various aquatic sampling methods, apply ethical and experimental considerations, and develop laboratory skills for analyzing aquatic samples at chemical, molecular, and organismal levels. Practical fieldwork is emphasized, with students learning to use scientific equipment and collect data in natural aquatic settings. The module also focuses on soft skills, such as team collaboration and delivering complex scientific projects, ensuring students are prepared to engage in both individual and team-based research endeavors. Together, these modules provide students with a comprehensive skill set to pursue advanced research in aquatic biology.
