COURSE CURRICULUM

In the Fundamental Knowledge and Skills for Nursing module (30 credits), you will begin your nursing journey by exploring the foundational concepts that underpin the nursing profession. You will develop a solid understanding of anatomy, physiology, patient-centred care, and planning. The module will enhance your skills for providing evidence-based, holistic, and compassionate care. You will also explore the legal, professional, and ethical implications of nursing, applying these principles to patient care and teamwork across a range of clinical settings.The Foundations of Mental Health Nursing Practice module (30 credits) prepares you for clinical placements by equipping you with the knowledge and skills necessary for mental health nursing. You will gain an understanding of the theoretical frameworks, principles, and evidence-based practices that support mental health nursing. The module will also help you develop resilience strategies for the workplace and examine the sociocultural, political, and economic factors affecting the health and well-being of mental health patients. You will learn how to conduct physical and psychological assessments, create appropriate care plans, and enhance your clinical decision-making abilities. By building communication and leadership skills, you will be ready to collaborate effectively with interprofessional teams and contribute to the delivery of high-quality patient care. This module contributes to meeting NMC Standards of Proficiency for Registered Nurses, and you will also need to complete the requirements for the 'Passport to Practice' before attending placements.In the Integrated Care for People With Acute and Long Term Conditions module (30 credits), you will advance your scientific and nursing knowledge to support patients with complex acute and long-term conditions. You will expand your understanding of common health conditions, relevant pathophysiologies, pharmacology, and diagnostics, equipping you to assess, manage, and evaluate care effectively. During this module, you will focus on assessing acutely unwell adults and applying evidence-based treatments and management strategies to improve patient outcomes.
