In the A Question of Research module (30 credits), you will develop specialized research skills that are crucial for your creative work. By the end of this module, you’ll be familiar with the best research strategies and how to apply them to your Master’s study, becoming a flexible and thoughtful researcher ready to explore new, exciting questions.The Exploratory Practice and Proposal module (30 credits) encourages you to dive deep into exploratory photographic research, developing a richer understanding of the theories and debates shaping the medium today. This module challenges you to reflect on your learnings and come up with innovative ways to work, pushing the boundaries of photographic practice. You’ll select a variety of materials, methods, and sources, testing and evaluating them to refine your approach. By the end of the module, you’ll create an ambitious project proposal that demonstrates independent thinking and outlines a systematic plan for advancing your photographic practice. This module is an opportunity to challenge conventional ideas and push the limits of your medium.The Contemporary Photographic Practice in Context module (60 credits) will provide you with a critical perspective on your photographic work. You’ll analyze your practice within the broader context of contemporary photography, comparing your output to current styles, theories, and debates. This module will enhance your contextual awareness, helping you understand how your work fits into the current photographic landscape. Through research and critical analysis, you’ll develop a critical paper that articulates your learning and shows how your practice aligns with or challenges existing work. You will also focus on defining your career path, building an online presence, and using this experience to give your photography new focus and direction, both creatively and professionally.Finally, the Photography Major Project (60 credits) allows you to showcase your photographic skills through a significant independent project. You’ll use the research and techniques you’ve developed throughout the course to create a unique body of work that demonstrates your creativity, technical expertise, and understanding of photographic context. This module emphasizes experimentation and academic rigor, helping you refine your style and produce photography that meets industry standards. The final outcome of this project will demonstrate that you’re a creative visual storyteller, prepared to succeed in the competitive creative job market.
