COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year of your program, you will engage with foundational topics in sociology and psychology that will shape your understanding of human behavior and society. The Developing Your Sociological Imagination module invites you to critically engage with contemporary debates and sociological theories, helping you see the world from multiple sociological perspectives. In Psychology for the Social Sciences, you'll explore key psychological theories such as behaviorism and humanism, gaining a deeper understanding of human actions and social issues through a psychological lens. The Research Design and Analysis module teaches you essential research skills, enabling you to effectively design, collect, and analyze data in sociological and psychological contexts. In Social and Cultural Psychology, you will examine how societal influences, including cultural forces, shape human behavior and thinking, offering insights into phenomena like conformity, prejudice, and leadership. Finally, the Theorising Social Life module will deepen your understanding of social theories, equipping you with the tools to analyze society, identity, and social change critically.In the second year, you will dive deeper into the practical and theoretical aspects of psychology and sociology. The Critical Psychology module challenges mainstream psychological theories, encouraging you to rethink traditional approaches and explore how psychology can contribute to or challenge social inequalities. Doing Sociological Research offers hands-on experience in conducting a group research project, where you'll work collaboratively to design, collect, and analyze data on a sociological issue. Discursive Psychology shifts focus to how language shapes social life, guiding you through the analysis of discourse to understand complex human behaviors. In Modernity and Globalisation, you'll explore how global forces have shaped modern institutions and societies, developing skills in critical thinking and research while learning to assess the benefits and challenges of globalization.In your final year, the modules shift toward more specialized areas of psychology. Creative Research Methods in Psychology introduces you to innovative, arts-based research approaches, allowing you to explore the potential of creative methods in psychological research. Finally, Community Psychology provides a practical focus, where you'll learn to design and implement community-based psychological interventions, drawing on real-life case studies and preparing you for real-world action in the community. This year will refine your ability to apply psychological principles in diverse contexts, preparing you for professional practice.
