COURSE CURRICULUM

Essential Skills for Criminologists helps students build academic and research skills, while Evidence-Based Policing and Introduction to Policing delve into the role of research in policing and the history, theories, and practices of law enforcement.Year 2 expands on these topics, with modules like Community Policing and Public Protection, which explores safeguarding vulnerable individuals, and Mental Health and Wellbeing, which addresses the importance of mental health support within the criminal justice system. Victims of Crime focuses on the role of victims in the justice process, while Complex Investigations examines advanced investigative techniques and interagency cooperation. The Policing and Society module looks at the broader context of policing, and Researching Criminology prepares students for their final year dissertation.In Year 3, students undertake a self-directed Dissertation (Criminology), allowing them to focus on a topic of their interest within criminology. Other modules like Management of Criminal Investigations and Policing: Law, Policy, and Practice provide students with insights into managing serious crime investigations, as well as understanding the legal and ethical frameworks governing policing.
