COURSE CURRICULUM

This product design program offers a comprehensive and practical approach to developing engineering and design skills. In Year 1, students start with foundational modules like Design Analysis and Development, where they create and optimize consumer products using CAD and rendering software. Other core modules, such as Engineering Practice, introduce project management and business skills, while Illustration Techniques and Introduction to Design emphasize communication and graphic design skills through sketching, CAD, and prototyping. Additionally, Introduction to Materials and Manufacture covers material properties and manufacturing processes, and Introduction to Technology Concepts teaches students how to apply principles of physics and mathematics to product design.In Year 2, students advance their skills with modules like Computer Aided Design, which delves into solid modeling, assemblies, and finite element analysis. The Design Ideation module encourages students to bridge concept sketches with physical prototypes, and Research Methods for Product Design focuses on user-centered research to inform product innovation. Technology Concepts expands on physical principles, and Human-Centered Conceptual Design teaches students to analyze needs and develop feasible product concepts.In Year 3, the focus shifts to specialized modules, including an Individual Project, where students independently tackle an engineering challenge, applying their knowledge and project management skills. Other modules such as Advanced Modelling and Sustainable Development and Environmental Management refine students' technical capabilities and ethical considerations. Advanced and Modern Materials and Preparation for Product Launch round out the program, preparing students for industry challenges in product development and market introduction. This curriculum equips students with a broad set of skills, from design and prototyping to business and sustainability, readying them for careers in product design and engineering.
