COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year 1, the Composing Through Technology module will help you develop a strong foundation in music composition, utilizing technology to manipulate sound and apply composition techniques. You will create a portfolio of inventive projects, showcasing your versatile talents. The Creative Computing for Music and Sound module focuses on building your expertise in programming tools for music tech, helping you grasp concepts in digital audio, signal processing, and creative coding. You’ll apply these technical skills to produce engaging music pieces. Music in Context will immerse you in the diverse aspects of music, including its composition, performance, commercialization, and reception, while emphasizing the role of technology in contemporary music practices. The Sound Design module focuses on creating compelling sounds by applying recording techniques, editing, processing, and synthesizing, helping you convey ideas and emotions through sound. Studio Recording Fundamentals will teach you essential studio gear, techniques, and signal flow, enabling you to produce professional-grade recordings with polish. Studio Recording Practice deepens your knowledge of studio recording, mixing, and production, preparing you to create a studio band recording while understanding historical and contemporary practices in music technology. In Year 2, the Applied Music Technology Project allows you to conceive and create an original music tech artifact, applying skills and reflecting critically on the project. The Creative Research and Project Initiation module empowers you to launch your own creative project, equipping you with research strategies and the skills to craft research proposals and independent study plans. Year 3 culminates in the Final Year Project, where you'll initiate an individual creative, research, or professional endeavor, demonstrating project management, problem-solving, and critical analysis skills, producing a body of work that showcases your knowledge and readiness for future professional and academic challenges.
