COURSE CURRICULUM

The Earth and Environmental Sciences program provides students with a comprehensive foundation in environmental science, beginning with Year 1 modules that cover key topics such as Earth processes, ecology, and marine systems. Modules like Analysis of the Earth and Environment introduce students to the physical, chemical, and mathematical aspects of Earth science, while Ecology, Plants and Human Impact provides insights into ecosystems and the effects of human activity on the environment. Students also explore the history of Earth in How the Earth Works and delve into marine ecology in Introduction to Marine Ecology and Oceanography, developing practical skills in data collection and analysis. The Global Environmental Challenges module allows students to understand the relationship between population growth, resource use, and environmental change on both local and global scales.In Year 2, students deepen their knowledge with modules like Environmental Chemistry and Monitoring, which focuses on understanding and addressing environmental health threats. The Environmental Fieldwork and Professional Skills module offers hands-on experience through an overseas study tour, helping students develop fieldwork techniques and gain insight into potential career pathways. Additionally, the Marine Organisms and Ecosystems module builds on marine ecological knowledge, while Oceanography gives students practical experience with coastal surveys and oceanographic data analysis.Year 3 modules focus on advanced topics such as Marine Ecology and Conservation, where students analyze and critically evaluate marine ecosystems and conservation strategies. The program culminates in a Research Project, where students design and execute an independent research study, developing essential research, analytical, and communication skills. This project allows students to apply their knowledge and contribute to the scientific community while preparing for careers in environmental science.
