COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year 1, the focus is on the fundamentals. Construction Management and Practice introduces students to key site activities and the importance of health, safety, and risk management. Introduction to Construction Measurement builds essential quantity surveying skills, while Introduction to Law for the Built Environment ensures students have the legal knowledge to navigate property and construction law. Materials in Construction covers testing and selection of construction materials, and Professional Development 1 prepares students for the practicalities of the industry, including surveying and site practices.Year 2 shifts towards more specialized and advanced topics. Procurement and Pre-Contract Practice develops an understanding of cost estimation, budgeting, and procurement. Professional Development 2 allows students to work on practical projects to develop their employability. Introduction to Project Management Principles provides the foundation for managing construction projects, while Numerical Skills and Economics strengthens the understanding of economic and financial factors in the construction industry. The Safety Management On Site module teaches safety regulations and risk management on construction sites.In Year 3, students undertake the Individual Project, where they tackle real-world engineering challenges through independent research. Modules like Corporate and Contract Management, Project Management for Construction, and Project Evaluation and Development enhance understanding of contracts, business strategy, and project planning. The Sustainable Construction module explores the impact of construction on sustainability, preparing students for the industry's shift toward environmentally conscious practices.
