The Computing program provides students with a comprehensive foundation in both practical and theoretical aspects of computer science, preparing them for careers in software development, systems analysis, and network administration. In Year 1, modules such as Architecture and Operating Systems, Core Computing Concepts, and Database Systems Development lay the groundwork for understanding key computing principles, database design, and network infrastructure. The Programming module introduces students to algorithm development and object-oriented programming, providing the necessary skills to develop and implement software applications using languages like Python and Dart.In Year 2, the focus shifts to more advanced topics. Programming Applications and Programming Languages delves into software construction and language design, while Software Engineering Theory and Practice gives students experience in building medium-sized software applications through collaborative team projects. Data Structures and Algorithms deepens understanding of data management, and Operating Systems and Internetworking explores the fundamental technologies behind computers and networks. The Discrete Mathematics and Functional Programming module strengthens mathematical and logical reasoning, key skills for solving complex software engineering challenges.Year 3 focuses on specialization and advanced topics. The Individual Project (Engineering) allows students to demonstrate their skills by tackling real-world engineering problems, while Theoretical Computer Science covers formal models and complex topics like NP-completeness. Distributed Systems and Security explores emerging trends in distributed computing and network security, equipping students with the knowledge to design secure and efficient systems. By the end of the program, graduates will be well-prepared for professional roles in computer science, software engineering, and cybersecurity.
