COURSE CURRICULUM

The Built Environment program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with the technical, legal, and managerial skills essential for success in the construction and real estate industries. In Year 1, students gain proficiency in CAD and BIM, creating professional 3D models and drawings while learning about construction methods. The Introduction to Law for the Built Environment module provides valuable insights into English law, helping students navigate key principles like tort and contract law. Students also explore economic and financial concepts through modules like Property Economics and Financial Accounting, preparing them for investment analysis and data-driven decision-making. The Multidisciplinary Project allows students to plan and present projects, gaining hands-on experience in construction budgeting and technical measurement.As the program progresses into Year 2, students dive into more specialized areas, such as Procurement and Pre-Contract Practice, focusing on managing construction budgets and contracts, and Introduction to Project Management Principles, where they apply industry-standard tools for project planning and control. The Applied BIM module enhances students' collaboration skills, enabling them to work on complex construction projects using cutting-edge technology. Optional modules like Heritage Property and International Built Environment Fieldwork provide global perspectives on urban regeneration and sustainable development.In Year 3, students undertake an Individual Major Project, applying their knowledge to solve real-world engineering challenges. Modules like Building Pathology and Energy and Environmental Management further hone practical skills, while Professional Practice helps students build the confidence and network needed for successful careers in the built environment. This program prepares students to excel in a variety of roles within the industry.
