In Year 1, the focus is on foundational engineering principles. Electrical and Electronic Principles teaches basic circuit analysis and electromagnetism, integrating electrical with mechanical engineering. Introduction to Design builds skills in hand drafting and CAD, while Introduction to Materials and Manufacture covers material properties and manufacturing technologies. Introduction to Solid Mechanics and Dynamics helps students understand stress analysis, load balancing, and dynamic forces. Introduction to Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics establishes core knowledge of heat and fluid systems, crucial for further study in mechanical systems. The Mathematical Principles module strengthens problem-solving abilities with algebra, calculus, and matrices, essential for engineering applications.Year 2 builds on these core skills. Computer Aided Engineering and Product Manufacture develops practical expertise in solid modelling, FEA, and manufacturing processes. Engineering Design emphasizes end-to-end design, from problem definition to detailed solutions. Engineering Mathematics and Numerical Analysis applies mathematical techniques and programming skills to model physical processes, using MATLAB. Solid Mechanics and Dynamics advances students’ knowledge in stress analysis, kinematics, and vibration theory. Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics deepens understanding of thermodynamic processes and energy conversion.In Year 3, the BEng Individual Project allows students to apply their learning to a real-world challenge, enhancing project management and problem-solving skills. Finite Element Analysis in Solid Mechanics teaches students to apply the Finite Element Method to engineering problems. Sustainable Development and Environmental Management explores global environmental issues and ethical considerations in engineering. Design for Quality equips students with the knowledge to improve product quality and meet industry standards.
