COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year 1, students are introduced to core engineering concepts. The Electrical and Electronic Principles module integrates electrical and electronic engineering with mechanical studies, covering circuits, device operations, and electromagnetism. Introduction to Design focuses on engineering design and graphic communication, teaching skills in hand drafting and computer-aided design (CAD). The Introduction to Materials and Manufacture module covers materials science, selection, and manufacturing technologies. Introduction to Solid Mechanics and Dynamics emphasizes stress analysis, statics, and dynamics, helping students solve practical engineering problems. Introduction to Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics provides a foundation in heat and fluid systems, which are crucial for modelling mechanical equipment. The Mathematical Principles module enhances problem-solving skills with topics like algebra, calculus, and matrices.In Year 2, students build on their knowledge with more applied modules. Computer Aided Engineering and Product Manufacture focuses on solid modelling, finite element analysis (FEA), and manufacturing processes. Engineering Design develops problem-solving skills, guiding students through product design from concept to solution. Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics deepens their understanding of complex thermofluid processes. Solid Mechanics and Dynamics advances knowledge in stress analysis, kinematics, and vibration theory.Year 3 focuses on specialized projects and professional skills. The BEng Individual Project allows students to tackle real-world engineering challenges independently. Computer Aided Engineering (Product Realisation) emphasizes advanced CAD/CAE applications for product design. Sustainable Development and Environmental Management introduces ethical and environmental considerations in engineering. Design for Quality focuses on optimizing manufacturability and meeting industry standards, while Manufacturing Systems explores emerging trends like lean manufacturing and Industry 4.0.
