COURSE CURRICULUM

The Devised Project module encourages students to work as a team to create an original performance piece, fostering an environment of flexibility and exploration. Making Theatre introduces students to live theatre production, teaching the balance between following directions and using initiative in a rehearsal setting. Movement for Performance enhances physical performance abilities, offering workshops for all skill levels to improve body language and confidence on stage. The Performance - Criticism and Analysis module hones academic research and writing skills while examining theatre performances using critical theories. Performance and Society examines the social and political history of theatre, fostering an understanding of the relationship between theatre and its societal context. The Voice and the Actor module works on developing a strong stage presence through vocal techniques, speech, and song performance.Year 2 brings a deeper focus on historical and theoretical perspectives. The Performance Histories module offers an exploration of various theatrical traditions, while Critical Contexts introduces theoretical viewpoints such as feminism, Marxism, and queer theory, providing tools for in-depth analysis. These modules prepare students to appreciate the complexity of theatre from historical, cultural, and critical perspectives.In Year 3, students explore more niche areas of performance. The Alternative Theatres module focuses on experimental and avant-garde performances, introducing students to unconventional theatre styles. Applied Theatre for Young Audiences teaches students to create interactive theatre for young people, focusing on community engagement and social impact. The Theatre Studies and Industries module blends academic and professional theatre skills, preparing students for the industry by developing portfolios and professional techniques. Forming A Company emphasizes team collaboration and leadership, while the Major Academic Project offers a personalized research or practical project, allowing students to demonstrate their skills and creativity in a focused area of interest.
