COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year of the Sociology program, you will develop a strong foundation in sociological theory and research. Developing Your Sociological Imagination will help you critique contemporary debates, understand diverse sociological perspectives, and build critical thinking skills. The Observing Society module allows you to critically engage with films and documentaries, analyzing how visual media shapes societal views and social policies. Research Design and Analysis provides the tools for conducting sociological research, covering both qualitative and quantitative methods to analyze data ethically and effectively. The Social Inequalities module delves into power structures and intersectional inequalities, exploring how gender, race, and class affect social mobility. Finally, Theorising Social Life introduces core sociological theories that will help you analyze society and identity, providing a deep understanding of modern social issues.In Year 2, you’ll gain practical experience through Doing Sociological Research, where you’ll collaborate with peers to design and conduct a research project. The Work, Employment and Society module will expand your knowledge of labor systems, exploring historical and modern theories of work, and the dynamics of workplace rights and social divisions. Modernity and Globalisation focuses on the rise of modern institutions and the global forces shaping today’s world, fostering critical insights into globalization. In Risk and Society, you will examine the role of risk in contemporary life, studying how social institutions shape perceptions of risk and its impact on individual lives.These modules will equip you with the research, critical thinking, and analytical skills necessary for a successful career in sociology.
